M&A Weekly Digest – April 13, 2012

April 13, 2012 By Lindsey Perkins Wade

In this edition of the M&A Weekly Digest, we discuss current M&A activity, retirement planning, and how a partnership with a private equity firm can benefit your business.

M&A Firms Bullish on Deals in 2012

“As we have discussed in prior articles, more and more analysts are expecting 2012 to be a solid year in deal making activity. This expectation makes sense given that interest rates continue to stay low, cap gains taxes are at historic lows (at least through the end of this year), and both corporate and financial buyers are flush with cash.

To further substantiate this view, last month the Brunswick Group released its M&A survey – which is an annual poll of leading North American M&A bankers and lawyers.”

Retirement Planning – What Every Business Owner Needs to Consider

Are you too busy running your business to have time to even consider your retirement? Private Equity Partners – A Win-Win Scenario

“On March 7, Rosser announced that it had ‘invested in Barteca in partnership with the Company’s founders, to further support the growth of its exciting restaurant brands. Barteca is the operator of the restaurant concepts, Barcelona Wine Bar and Bartaco.’

I emphasized the key segment of the paragraph above to drive home a point: Equity firms that specialize in investing in lower middle-market companies’ do so to grow and expand the capital that they put into the business. And, quite often, they do so while partnering with existing ownership – thus creating a true win-win scenario.”
